Central Alberta Freestyle Ski Club
Sunrise... Rodeo...
Misty... these may be weird terms to some, but not to freestyle
skiers, as these are only a few of the words used to describe jumps.
And BIG AIR is a whole new area of development for competition in
freestyle skiing. We will see many more new jumps and words to describe
these as freestyle skiing moves into a new era. Competition will
take off in BIG AIR using table tops, half-pipes and quarter-pipes
similar to snowboarding. Freestyle skiing is exciting to spectators
as well as participants.
The Central
Alberta Freestyle Ski Club is an active and notable freestyle ski
team, which trains at Canyon Ski Area in the winter.
We also are
associated with the largest entry program to freestyle skiing in
Canada. The Jumps and Bumps program consists of over 80 young skiers
who take lessons with volunteer coaches for 6 - 8 weeks on Saturday
mornings. This reflects a tremendous interest in freestyle. All
programs require a large commitment by both athletes and parents
and we are grateful for the parent participation in our club.
History
The Central
Alberta Freestyle Ski Club was formally constituted in 1980. The
Club started with about 6 athletes and presently has a membership
roster of 140 members consisting of 20 athletes, 80 Jumps and Bumps
members, coaches and volunteers. The water ramp at Three Mile Bend
was built by club members in 1987.
